Open Source WordPress for iPhone App

The good folks at WordPress recently launched their WordPress for iPhone native app, which allows content administrators to create and edit posts, upload photos and administer their blog from an iPhone or iPod Touch. Released as an open source project, the source code is freely available from their SVN server.

This does pose some concerns with no official mention of Apple lifting the iPhone developer NDA, as we discussed shortly after the WDDC in June. One issue the folks at WordPress may be scratching their heads over is that the terms of their open source license require the source code to be freely available, while the terms of the NDA effectively restrict redistribution of the source.

While some are of the opinion that the NDA was dissolved with the release of the OS 2.0 software and the iPhone 3g, Apple has not yet released any official statements on this issue to the best of our knowledge.

Registered iPhone developers can access the NDA by visiting the iPhone section of the Apple Dev Center.

Check out a video of the WordPress app in action below.

*Edit - If you experience the app quitting when entering your blog information, try changing your blog URL to the xmlrpc.php address, or http://www.youwordpressblog.com/xmlrpc.php
