New SDK, Firmware 2.0 Gold and App Store
Things are heating up as we near the release of the much anticipated iPhone 3G on July 11th. This week we’ve received a new SDK, news of firmware 2.0 going gold and reports of the preliminary opening of Apple’s App Store. Get the details after the jump.
Apple released the beta 8 version of the software development kit, which is compatible with OS 2.0 and includes capabilities to build and sign iPhone apps for submission to the App Store.
Also, iPhone’s firmware 2.0 is expected to reach “gold master” status today, meaning that development has ceased and the version which will ship to customers can be seeded to developers for testing, as reported by Gizmodo. According to “a source inside the Cupertino’s iPhone software development effort,” the golden master will follow build 345, and boast code signing and a new encryption feature.
This coincides with a separate tuaw report indicating the App Store has been opened for developers, allowing registered developers the oppertunity to prepare their apps for distribution prior to the July 11th public launch of the service.
Registered developers can get more information on submitting their apps from the “Program Portal” on Apple’s developer website.
