New iPod Touch,Nano/2.1 Later This Week
Today at Apple’s “Let’s Rock” media event, the company unveiled a newly designed iPod touch and an upgraded iPod nano. The 2.1 firmware for iPhone/iPod touch will be out on Friday, and should be a free upgrade from 2.0. Here are the specs for the new iPod touch:
- 2.1 Firmware
- Built-in speaker, volume controls
- Genius playlist
- Nike+iPod support
- Battery: 36 hours for music, 6 hours for video.
- $229 for 8GB, $299 for 16GB, $399 for 32GB

While it boasts the same screen size and internet capabilities as the previous model, Apple appears to be positioning the new iPod touch as a gaming device. A new ad shows off a number of games and Phil Schiller demonstrated Spore Origins, Real Soccer 2009 and Need for Speed: Undercover during the event.
