Learning how to Code is the New Norm

These days everything is online, from your shopping to your banking and even your schooling.  It’s incredible to think that some people can attain real skills that can be put to work in the real world for a real income, and those skills can be learned online and at a fraction of the cost of the formal education system.

Many websites exist that teach you how to code, but we are dedicated to parsing through the crowds and finding the best ones for you.  It’s in our mission statement!

Choosing the Right Language

This is a tough call and is definitely open to many individual interpretations.  The angle we take here is to be able to learn a skill and have the best chance of applying it in the real world and creating a real career.  Sure there are plenty of programming languages out there that could fit that bill, but we’re left brain people, we want to know the hard numbers!  So what are the hard numbers?  What is the most popular programming language out there?

I think it’s reasonable to assume that the most widely used and popular programming language will give you the best shot at landing that desirable career as a coder… so let’s take a look at some of the most popular programming languages out there today.

Mashable.com recently released a guide to the 10 programming languages you should learn in 2014, here’s that list:

  1. Java
  2. C Language
  3. C++
  4. C #
  5. Objective C
  6. PHP
  7. Python
  8. Ruby
  9. JavaScript
  10. SQL

So, having seen the 10 most desirable languages to learn based on many factors, all of which point back to the best career you can pave for yourself, you see that in the #1 spot comes the Java programming language.

Okay, so what’s the best way to learn Java?

Again, this is a loaded question and is subject to many opinions, but here in our labs we’ve been through an online tutorial or two and have found a few places that really do a great job at delivering the goods when it comes to teaching programming.  These tutorials are all easy to follow, the authors do a great job at breaking down the complexities of programming and teaching it in a style that is quite pleasurable to learn.

The first heavy hitter on the list is javavideotutorials.net, this website packs an amazing punch with the sheer volume of tutorials as well as the ease to learn.  It comes with tutorials that not only hit on the Java programming language, but also hits two more of the languages on our top 10 list: JavaScript and SQL.  Now, keep in mind that Java and JavaScript are two different languages completely, JavaScript is a web based programming language that is embedded inside of your web browser, whereas Java exists on a server somewhere far away from your computer!  In any case, this site is a juggernaut of value and currently has thousands of students enrolled and learning away.
